Biography
Arthur Kopit (1937β2021) was an acclaimed American playwright known for his innovative and satirical works. Born in New York City, he studied engineering at Harvard University but discovered his ion for theater during his time there. Kopit gained recognition with his play Oh Dad, Poor Dad, Mama's Hung You in the Closet and I'm Feelin' So Sad (1960), which parodied avant-garde drama and the Theatre of the Absurd. His other notable works include Indians (1969), Wings (1978), and the musical Nine (1982), for which he wrote the book. Kopit's plays often explored themes of American culture, identity, and societal issues, showcasing his sharp wit and theatrical creativity.
